Brake performance factor

What it controls
Adjustment factor for the service brake response in the air processing system: a higher factor makes the brakes bite earlier and harder for the same pedal travel, a lower one gives a softer initial response. The factory value depends on the vehicle type and the brake chamber sizes in the specification; it is one of the values that must be copied exactly when an APS control unit is replaced, because a wrong factor changes the pedal feel and the balance with the trailer brakes. Drivers moving from a vehicle with factor 3 to one with factor 0 report “weak brakes” even though both meet the legal deceleration — a specification check resolves it.
